Monday medieval quiz

11/5/2012

Let's face it, last week's quiz was pretty easy, nevertheless congratulations to our friend Thelos O'Rate who was the fastest!

Today we'll make it a bit harder and funnier... here it goes (and the answer this time must say who? where? when?):

1) They were three sieblings, they died -quite horribly- together, they are allegedly buried together in a church.
2) The church is in front of one of the gate towers of the very medieval and renowned walls of a city
3) That specific gate tower (the tower, not the gate!!) is named after a poor beast that died in front of it after walking non-stop for more than 24 hours carrying the dead body of a saint who was finally buried in that same church

Well, who where the three sieblings? (Extra points for answering the rest of the riddle!)

Ok, ok, in case you need it, there goes another clue...

I'll give it a shot:

1) The three siblings are Vicente, Sabina and Cristeta. The church is the Basílica de San Vicente or de los Santos Hermanos Mártires.
2) The medieval walls are those in Ávila, Spain.
3) The saint who is also buried there is San Pedro del Barco, whose corpse was carried to Ávila on a blinded mule. That's why the gate tower closer to the Basílica is called "el Cubo de la Mula".
4) Finally, the hint is a picture of the cenotaph of the three siblings.

That was hard! It took me half an hour to figure it out!
